ROSIE'S STORY
updates
Rosie is a 10 year old Welsh/Clydesdale that was one of our rescues. From the information that we had been given, the following is an account of her life until we picked her up on September 9, 2006.
Rosie's mother was a Welsh pony that was bred by a Clydesdale (we can only hope this was an accident). She is absolutely adorable and literally looks like a shrunken Clydesdale. Rosie's mother died immediately after Rosie's birth. Being a newborn foal (and an orphan), Rosie tried to nurse off of one of the Clydesdale mares who wanted nothing to do with her and kicked Rosie in the head and literally kicked out one of her eyes. She was bottle-fed and at some point, at the age of 2 or 3, ended up at a dairy farm. She lived with the cows and ate what the cows ate (including silage). We were told she has had farrier work done on her in the past, however, not for some time.
As you can see from the pictures below, Rosie's feet are in horrible condition and it may take up to 2 years for Rosie to be able to walk normally again (if ever). She has a great attitude and we are confident that we can help her, however, her farrier costs will be extensive. Her first "major" farrier work was done this past Friday (September 15, 2006). We will have updated pictures soon.
The pictures below were taken immediately after she was taken off of the trailer at Rolling Rock Rescue.

September 17, 2006: First major farrier work was completed. Rather than doing all 4 feet at once, 1 back and 1 front were done to allow Rosie to adjust to walking (and balancing) on her new feet. The other two feet will be done this week (October 17). We were pleased to find that there was not as much infection in her feet as we had anticipated.

How has she been doing with her new feet? Excellent! We couldn't be happier . . . she's moving very well and has a new buddy (Goldie) that she "exercises" with. She has settled in here very nicely and has learned that these "humans" who care for her are actually quite easy to get along with.
Rosie is continuing to do very well. All four feet have been done, and her farrier is continuing his work on getting her feet to look like more normal horse hooves. She has adjusted very well to her new feet and runs and bucks and plays all the "horsie" games one would expect her to be able to. She now spends her days with Goldie and Cooper.

she was literally
