December 2009
Okay, so we're still behind on updates, news, etc., and it is
still the fault of the Webmistress. It seems winter has finally
come to Wisconsin and even though we know it's coming every single year
it always seems like there are still things we did not get done!
Right now it's making sure all the bellies are full, water tanks (and
hoses) are not frozen and trying to figure out why, oh why, we put
ourselves through this every year!
We
have out winter hay reserved, however, it still needs to be paid for.
If you wish to donate to help us purchase hay for the horses, please
check out our Donate page to see how.
Donations of grain and/or supplements are also appreciated.
All of us here wish to thank all of you who have donated, volunteered,
etc., this past year - we could not help the horses we do without your
help. THANK YOU! We with you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year!
September 2009
Okay, so we've gotten way behind on updates, news, etc. You
can blame this one on the Webmistress. The summer seems to have
gone by way too fast and now it's time to start the fall cleanup!
We
had a visit from a wonderful young lady (and her family) from Chicago
who raised over $600 for the rescue! She did this by asking for
donations rather than presents for her birthday and then had a skating
party and asked her friend (and their families) to sponsor one of our
horses -- needless to say, "Booger" was a hit with the 8 year old boys
(think it might be his name). We were very honored to meet
Sylvia
and to be able to say "thank you" in person.
Looking for boarding with an indoor arena, gorgeous views and great care
for your horse(s)? Looking for a facility to host a horse clinic?
Please check out Hidden Hills
Stable (Ellsworth, WI area).
We
are looking to upcoming fundraisers including clinics, fun events, etc.
Please check back!
April 2009
The calendar tells us that Spring is coming -- but on April 5th with 2
inches of snow -- we're having a hard time believing that! With
the supposed arrival of Spring we always have lots of cleanup.
There is hair, hair and more hair -- everywhere ready for removal on
each and every horse. If you can wield a shedding blade, we can
find you a horse to use it on! If you have no idea what a shedding
blade is or how to use one, we can find you a volunteer horse to teach
you a valuable life skill!
We
have some exciting fundraisers coming up this summer and as soon as
dates and details are worked out, we will have them posted.
Be
sure check out the story
of Ruby and Mara. Any donations to help get these two back up to a
good weight would be greatly appreciated. They are both very nice
horses and deserve the chance to find great homes.

NEW CONTACT INFORMATION: 715-505-4107 or 715-505-1386.
Our new email address is
rrrescue@wildblue.net.
Just another reminder that if there is a particular kind of horse
that you are looking for, please contact us - we have a number of horses
on a waiting list and we may have the right one "waiting" for you!
We
would like to remind anyone who donates to our rescue (and any other
rescue), to please donate only if you are financially able to.
During the month of December, our rescue received 12 checks that did not clear (there were
insufficient funds in the donors' accounts) which caused an even greater
financial strain for us. Please remember that rescues like ours
depend on donations to operate and pay our expenses associated with
caring for the horses.
January 2009
NEW CONTACT INFORMATION: 715-505-4107. It's hard to believe
the new year is already here. We would like to again thank all of
you who have given so generously of your time and money to help us
continue to operate and help the horses that come through or stay at our
rescue. Phone call and emails come on a daily basis to take
horses, however, as much as we don't want to turn a horse in need away,
we cannot financially help them all - we are very grateful that we can
help the ones that we do. If there is a particular kind of horse
that you are looking for, please contact us - we have a number of horses
on a waiting list and we may have the right one "waiting" for you!

December 2008
NEW CONTACT INFORMATION: 715-505-4107. The past few months
have been a bit tumultuous for us here at the rescue. We have had
some family issues and a personal crisis, however, we want to assure
everyone that we are still in operation, the horses are doing very well
and we are anticipating a much better new year. Thank you to all
who expressed concern and we would like to reassure you that we are
still alive and well!
November 2008
NEW CONTACT INFORMATION: 715-505-4107.
With the cold weather approaching (okay, it's arrived), we have been
busily trying to get things ready for the upcoming winter months.
This, of course, means purchasing hay. We feed hay at the rescue
year round but during the colder months, the horses go through it much
faster. Hay costs are down this year which means donations for hay
will buy more bales.
If you would like to
donate good quality hay or make a monetary donation to help cover our
costs, please check out our Donate page to find
out how.
October 2008
We have received information that there is a man (Ray or Raymond) in the
Janesville, WI area who is saying that he has a horse rescue and using
the name Rolling Rock. He is not affiliated with our rescue in any
way. The information we received also states that he is taking
horses that people think are going to a rescue and bringing them to
Canada for slaughter. If you have any information regarding this
situation, please contact us at
rrrescue@pressenter.com. This is also a good reminder to please check out the rescue
that you are donating your horse(s) to. Visit the rescue, check out their
website, talk to the humane officer (or Sheriff's office) to find out if there
have been complaints about the care the horses are receiving. Ask
questions.
Not sure about adopting - how about
fostering a horse (or two). Fostering not only benefits the rescue
and the horse(s), there are also perks for you:
-
Care of your foster horse(s) is
tax-deductible;
-
Knowing those big brown eyes (sometimes
blue) think you are just the greatest (especially when you have
cookies in your pocket);
-
Even though they do have their own
winter coats, you can "dress" them in the winter -- horse blankets
come in a variety of colors;
-
Having that warm and fuzzy feeling when
a horse nickers at you to tell you how glad they are to see you; and
-
Providing a safe and healthy home for a
horse until they can be placed in a permanent home.
Our Hay Drive for the
upcoming winter is under way. We have a large number of bales
reserved for the winter, however, we still need to raise the money to
pay for them. At this time, the rescue has 45 horses and the
approximate cost for hay to feed them is over $10,000 (that amount is
just for the winter months). Hay costs are down this year which
means donations for hay will buy more bales.
If you would like to
donate good quality hay or make a monetary donation to help cover our
costs, please check out our Donate page to find
out how.
September 2008
A huge thank you to all who came to the
Equine Party and Fundraiser on September 12-14, 2008. The weather
was "damp" (okay, it rained) but we are, after all, horse people and a
little (okay, a lot) rain wasn't going to stop us! A number of our
adopted horses were there for the ride - it's always great to see how
well they are doing with their new families. It was nice to see
familiar faces from last year and to meet new friends this year.
Be sure to check out the pics
from this year's event!
PLEASE NOTE: We currently are
not accepting companion or retired horses. While we would like to
be able to take all horses that need our help, it is just not feasible.
We have a limited number of "spaces" for companions and retirees and
those spaces are currently filled. Because our rescue is solely
supported by donations, we need to make sure that the horses currently
in our care have all of their needs met until they can be adopted and
those that are retired, receive the care their previous owners entrusted
us to provide for them.
August 2008
The response to our
upcoming trail riding fundraiser in September has been so great that we
have filled all of our camping spots! Day trippers are welcome to
join us. We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new
ones. A number of our adopted horses and their families will be
coming this year. Even if you don't have a horse, please stop by.
THE RESCUE WILL BE CLOSED ON SEPTEMBER 12-14, 2008 SO THAT WE CAN
ATTEND THE RIDE.
July 2008
September 12-14, 2008
- 2nd Annual camping and trail riding fundraiser at Crow-Hassen Park
near Rogers, MN. Thanks to Leigh for asking us to be a part of
this again. This was a lot of fun and we are looking forward
to another great weekend with our horses and friends. Check
out how much fun we had last year!
Remember, when
searching the Internet, please consider using
GoodSearch and entering Rolling Rock Rescue as
your charity. Every time you search the internet using
GoodSearch, our rescue receives a donation. Like to shop?
GoodSearch also has a number of merchants that will donate a percent of
your purchase to the rescue.
June 2008
We held our 4th Annual Open
House on the 21st of June (pics). A big thank you to all of our
volunteers who helped make this happen and to everyone who attended.
We continue our quest for
hay. It seems at times that this is a never-ending quest.
Not only to find hay to feed now (we feed hay year round), but we must
also try and find (and secure) hay for the upcoming winter.
We have been asked what else
we could really use (hay is just a given) for the horses. Here are
a few items that are always appreciated:
Alfalfa Pellets
Hay Cubes
Shavings
Fly Masks
Winter Blankets
May 2008
With the economy closing
down on everyone, various things have skyrocketed in price including
hay. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated to assist
us in keeping our horses healthy and happy.
We are pretty confident
that spring has arrived in our area (at least it hasn't snowed recently)
after a very long, long Wisconsin winter. With the arrival of
warmer temperatures, there always seems to be a lot of things that need
to be done - so . . . if you're looking to volunteer some time on a farm
with a bunch of horses, please give us a call - we can always
find something for you to do!
We are very pleased to
report that all of the Barron
horses have been adopted or are in foster care.
April 2008
We would like to say a
special thank you to those who have taken in horses for foster care, for
the large donation of grain, alfalfa cubes and the monetary support to help us continue
to purchase hay (yes, we still need more hay). Congratulations to
those of you who have recently adopted! We have said this before
and we'll keep right on saying it, we could not continue to do what we
do without your help. THANK YOU!
If you are looking for an
opportunity to be covered with horse hair, we have horses that are more
than happy to give you theirs! With the arrival of warmer weather
(we are still patiently waiting it), the horses are dispensing of winter
coats for their sleek summer wear. If you would like to help with the
"transformation" and brush a horse (or two), we are quite sure we can
find a horse that will happily volunteer!
There are a couple of
fundraising events coming up this summer that we would like to remind
you about.
June 21, 2008 -
Family event and concert event
featuring Lamar Harris.
The event will be held in Lavalle, WI (near the WI Dells). The proceeds from this event will be given to Rolling
Rock Rescue and 2nd Chance Rescue. We are very excited about this --
it promises to be a great time for everyone and will be a wonderful
way to raise money for the rescue. This event
has been postponed.
Check

year! More
details will be coming.
March 2008
March has been a "quiet
month" at the rescue. The muck and mud have arrived and the horses
and their human caretakers are all quite tired of winter!!
February 2008
Channel 9 (Fox 9) aired a report that followed the Barron County
horses.
View the
report.
Thank you to everyone who
has helped with our hay drive so far! Even though we have been
able to purchase a number of round bales and with the help of Shefland
Trucking in Baldwin, Wi, delivered them to the rescue - we still need
more hay.
January 2008
We recently sent out a
plea for monetary donations to help purchase hay for the horses, we are
getting closer to our goal ($2,000) of purchasing at least enough hay to
get us through to March and possibly April (to purchase all of the hay
that is available (500 round bales) would be $10,000). We have
also received many offers of adoption and fostering. If you have
been thinking about either, please contact us. Our goal is and continues
to be to provide a safe and healthy environment for the horses at our
rescue until they can be placed in loving homes. We cannot say
"thank you" enough to all of you who have helped so far!
Our first load arrived on Friday, February 1, 2008. With
continued support, we will be able to continue to purchase this much
needed hay.
If you have been following
the story of the Barron County, WI horses that were seized and brought
to our rescue in December 2007, their story and pictures are now online.
Click here to find out how
they are doing in their recovery process. Any donations of grain,
hay, shavings, etc., to help with their recovery process is appreciated.
***Channel
9 (Fox 9 News locally) came to the rescue on January 21, 2008 to follow
up on a story that they have been doing on these horses. They
started following these horses at the time of their seizure. Their
story will be aired on February 6, 2008 at 9:00 p.m.
Our rescue is at full
capacity (and then some), if you have room in your barn/pasture and in
your heart, please consider fostering one (or two ) of our rescue
horses. They are always very grateful and very willing to accept
any kindness (especially if it comes with hay and a treat or two) you
have to offer. If you don't ride or can't any longer, please
consider a companion horse (fostering or adoption). These horses
can no longer be ridden, however, they still have a great deal of love
and companionship to offer.
As we
start a new year, we wish to extend
a huge THANK YOU to all of you who helped us 2007.
We would not be able to do what we do without each one of you.
It has been an interesting 2007 - we have seen the horrible things
that owners and caretakers can inflict on their horses, the
heartbreak when the damage has been so severe that we can only offer
a release from their pain by those who do care, and the amazing
recovery of those that we could help. We have seen the
joy and excitement in a new adopter's eyes, heard the stories and
have seen how the horses have thrived in their new homes.
We are very honored that we have been able to play a part (no matter
how small) in providing each horse that comes into our rescue a new
beginning. From all of us at Rolling Rock Rescue, we wish you
a safe and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
