June 2008
We held our 4th Annual Open
house on the 21st of June. A big thank you to all of our
volunteers who helped make this happen and to everyone who attended.
We continue our quest for
hay. It seems at times that this is a never-ending quest.
Not only to find hay to feed now (we feed hay year round), but we must
also try and find (and secure) hay for the upcoming winter.
We have been asked what else
we could really use (hay is just a given) for the horses. Here are
a few items that are always appreciated:
Alfalfa Pellets
Hay Cubes
Shavings
Fly Masks
Winter Blankets
May 2008
With the economy closing
down on everyone, various things have skyrocketed in price including
hay. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated to assist
us in keeping our horses healthy and happy.
We are pretty confident
that spring has arrived in our area (at least it hasn't snowed recently)
after a very long, long Wisconsin winter. With the arrival of
warmer temperatures, there always seems to be a lot of things that need
to be done - so . . . if you're looking to volunteer some time on a farm
with a bunch of horses, please give us a call - we can always
find something for you to do!
We are very pleased to
report that all of the Barron
horses have been adopted or are in foster care.
If you are starting to
fill out your calendar of fun things to do this year, please add the
following:
September 12-14, 2008
- 2nd Annual camping and trail riding fundraiser at Crow-Hassen Park
near Rogers, MN. Thanks to Leigh for asking us to be a part of
this again. This was a lot of fun and we are looking forward
to another great weekend with our horses and friends. Check
out how much fun we had last year!
We will be taking
reservations for camping soon so please check back.
April 2008
We would like to say a
special thank you to those who have taken in horses for foster care, for
the large donation of grain, alfalfa cubes and the monetary support to help us continue
to purchase hay (yes, we still need more hay). Congratulations to
those of you who have recently adopted! We have said this before
and we'll keep right on saying it, we could not continue to do what we
do without your help. THANK YOU!
If you are looking for an
opportunity to be covered with horse hair, we have horses that are more
than happy to give you theirs! With the arrival of warmer weather
(we are still patiently waiting it), the horses are dispensing of winter
coats for their sleek summer wear. If you would like to help with the
"transformation" and brush a horse (or two), we are quite sure we can
find a horse that will happily volunteer!
There are a couple of
fundraising events coming up this summer that we would like to remind
you about.
June 21, 2008 -
Family event and concert event
featuring Lamar Harris.
The event will be held in Lavalle, WI (near the WI Dells). The proceeds from this event will be given to Rolling
Rock Rescue and 2nd Chance Rescue. We are very excited about this --
it promises to be a great time for everyone and will be a wonderful
way to raise money for the rescue. This event
has been postponed.

- 2nd Annual camping and trail riding fundraiser at Crow-Hassen Park
near Rogers, MN. Thanks to Leigh for asking us to be a part of
this again. This was a lot of fun and we are looking forward

details will be coming.
March 2008
March has been a "quiet
month" at the rescue. The muck and mud have arrived and the horses
and their human caretakers are all quite tired of winter!!
February 2008
Channel 9 (Fox 9) aired a report that followed the Barron County
horses.
View the
report.
Thank you to everyone who
has helped with our hay drive so far! Even though we have been
able to purchase a number of round bales and with the help of Shefland
Trucking in Baldwin, Wi, delivered them to the rescue - we still need
more hay.
January 2008
We recently sent out a
plea for monetary donations to help purchase hay for the horses, we are
getting closer to our goal ($2,000) of purchasing at least enough hay to
get us through to March and possibly April (to purchase all of the hay
that is available (500 round bales) would be $10,000). We have
also received many offers of adoption and fostering. If you have
been thinking about either, please contact us. Our goal is and continues
to be to provide a safe and healthy environment for the horses at our
rescue until they can be placed in loving homes. We cannot say
"thank you" enough to all of you who have helped so far!
Our first load arrived on Friday, February 1, 2008. With
continued support, we will be able to continue to purchase this much
needed hay.
If you have been following
the story of the Barron County, WI horses that were seized and brought
to our rescue in December 2007, their story and pictures are now online.
Click here to find out how
they are doing in their recovery process. Any donations of grain,
hay, shavings, etc., to help with their recovery process is appreciated.
***Channel
9 (Fox 9 News locally) came to the rescue on January 21, 2008 to follow
up on a story that they have been doing on these horses. They
started following these horses at the time of their seizure. Their
story will be aired on February 6, 2008 at 9:00 p.m.
Remember, when
searching the Internet, please consider using
GoodSearch and entering Rolling Rock Rescue as
your charity. Every time you search the internet using
GoodSearch, our rescue receives a donation. Like to shop?
GoodSearch also has a number of merchants that will donate a percent of
your purchase to the rescue.
Our rescue is at full
capacity (and then some), if you have room in your barn/pasture and in
your heart, please consider fostering one (or two ) of our rescue
horses. They are always very grateful and very willing to accept
any kindness (especially if it comes with hay and a treat or two) you
have to offer. If you don't ride or can't any longer, please
consider a companion horse (fostering or adoption). These horses
can no longer be ridden, however, they still have a great deal of love
and companionship to offer.
As we
start a new year, we wish to extend
a huge THANK YOU to all of you who helped us 2007.
We would not be able to do what we do without each one of you.
It has been an interesting 2007 - we have seen the horrible things
that owners and caretakers can inflict on their horses, the
heartbreak when the damage has been so severe that we can only offer
a release from their pain by those who do care, and the amazing
recovery of those that we could help. We have seen the
joy and excitement in a new adopter's eyes, heard the stories and
have seen how the horses have thrived in their new homes.
We are very honored that we have been able to play a part (no matter
how small) in providing each horse that comes into our rescue a new
beginning. From all of us at Rolling Rock Rescue, we wish you
a safe and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
December 2007
With the holidays fast approaching,
and the "crunch" is on to find the perfect gift, please consider
Sponsoring a horse for the horse lover on
your list! Or making a donation to the rescue in their name.
Remember all donations are tax deductible.
We are now offering our 2008 Rolling
Rock Rescue calendar featuring some of the horses from our rescue.
Thank you, Holly, for all your great work in making this possible.

We still need hay - round bales, large squares or small
squares -- the horses don't care what size as long as it's good quality
hay!
October 2007
Be sure to check out the
pictures from the trail ride
on September 21-23, 2007.
At this time of the year it seems
everyone and everything is getting ready for the winter ahead and so are
we. We still need hay - round bales, large squares or small
squares -- the horses don't care what size as long as it's good quality
hay! Other things that we can use for the upcoming winter
are bags of shavings, horse blankets in all sizes, senior feed, alfalfa
cubes, etc.
September 2007
The fundraiser trail ride on September 21-23, 2007
was a great time. Special thanks to Leigh for organizing the event
and inviting us; Jamie for all her work doing the silent auction; Rolling Rock Beer
and Day Distributing of Rogers, MN for the donation of door
prizes and silent auction items; and to everyone else that made the
weekend such a success! Thank you to all of you who were there -
it was a pleasure meeting each and every one of you. We also need to thank JP for allowing Beck to
ride Montana - it made her weekend!
Our rescue was featured locally on
KSTP-TV on September 21, 2007. You can watch the video at

At the end of August, 6 horses
were unexpectedly brought into the rescue. 2 of the horses had
been starved. These horses have put an additional financial strain
on our rescue. If you or anyone you know can help financially or
can donate hay, alfalfa cubes, etc., it would be greatly appreciated.
Please check out our donate page or call
715-273-5567 if you can help.
August 2007
If you or someone you know has hay
available (we prefer round bales) please contact us (715-273-5567).
We feed hay year round, however, we are now trying to secure enough hay
for the upcoming winter.
We are at full capacity and calls
continue to come in asking for us to take just "one" more horse.
In order for us to take in horses that need our help, we need foster
homes. We have horses of all ages and all levels of care.
Many of these horses just need good pasture, hay and a kind human to let
them know they are still wanted (a good brushing, treats and a hug or
two are also quite acceptable). If you have room in your pasture
and in your heart for a horse, please consider fostering one, or two, or
. . . . All costs are tax-deductible. Contact us to find
out how our fostering program works.
Looking for a great young athletic
horse to train to your liking? Be sure to check out the new OTTB's
that have arrived on our Available Horses
page. We are working with Canterbury Park and have recently
acquired some of these amazing young athletes.
Shydee
(our first baby born at the rescue) continues to heal very well from her
injury, however, because of her large size at birth, one of her front
legs is not straightening. We are currently having her evaluated
by Stillwater Equine to determine the best way to correct this.
She could really use a sponsor to help
cover her upcoming vet costs.
Many people and/or
organizations have no idea what happens at a rescue -- if your club,
school or organization would like to schedule a presentation, please
contact us for more information:
rrrescue@pressenter.com.
June 2007
Thanks to all who attended our 3rd
Annual Open House on June 23rd. Please check back -- pictures will
be posted soon!
Unfortunately, Shydee our new baby
has suffered an injury which has required us to incur vet costs.
Her mom inadvertently sliced open Shydee's hip which required stitches
(twice). Any help with her expenses would be greatly appreciated.
To find out how you can help, please check out our
donate page.
Thank you to Globe for the fund
raiser donations!
March 2007
We recently made a presentation about
our rescue, the horses, our volunteer program, what we do, etc., to the
Pre-Vet Class at UW River Falls.
Shar (the woman who found Willie (the
burro)) has written a wonderful, heart-warming story of about how Willie
ended up at our rescue. Check out her story at
http://www.pawswi.com/willystorypdf.pdf. You can also check out
the entire PAWS website:
www.pawswi.com (you'll find Willy's story under the January news).

October 2006
Did you see us on
KSTP's 6:00 news on October 9th? We picked up a horse that has been featured on
their program from the Golden Valley Humane Society. This was a
horse that was seized back in May of this year who was in terrible
condition. After recuperating in foster care, we were chosen to
give this guy a new home. Pictures of our newest arrival will be
coming soon along with links to his story.
