COOPER'S STORY

Cooper is our "celebrity" horse in that he's been featured a couple of times on KSTP-TV, Channel 5 (locally).  He was originally seized in May of 2005 by the Golden Valley Humane Society in Golden Valley, Minnesota, from a farm located in Anoka County.  When Cooper was seized, he was malnourished, his feet were in terrible shape and he was in need of medical attention from a piece of barbed wire that was still embedded in his back leg (they believe the wire was embedded in his leg for up to a year).  While Cooper was in foster care, he was nicknamed "Elf" by his foster mom because of his "elf-like" feet.  After he had his injuries taken care of, feet done and weight put back on he was ready for a new permanent home  -- that's where we came in.

Cooper is a 13 year old Quarter Horse gelding that because of the injury to his back leg, will be a companion horse only.  He has a great attitude and because of his "celebrity" status, has become quite a hit here at the rescue.  So far his "star" status has not gone to his head -- too much.  Since arriving here, he has been happily taking care of his girls, Rosie and Goldie.  Pictures of the day we picked up Cooper are below.  Cooper is a great example of what can happen when organizations work together.

March 2007

Cooper has settled in with his "girls" - Rosie and Goldie and is doing very well.  Even though he cannot be ridden, he still enjoys a good brushing or just someone to scratch those "itchy" spots he just can't reach.

This is a picture of Cooper sporting his new "hay extensions" for the mane and tail . . .

and this is him with his "girls."
